My Patio Furniture is Famous

Kind of.

Rob's youngest brother Rich is here visiting, you know, the one I basically marketed to all single women everywhere?  Well he's also a workhorse and has so far tilled our entire back yard, layed (lain? lay?)  a pallet of sod, cleaned out the gutters, weeded the back flower beds, mown/weed-eated, and helped me paint our master bedroom.

He's not for hire.  Yet.

Anyway, all that to say, him being so productive gave me a confidence boost to finish a few projects I've been delaying indefinitely.  One of which was to re-finish the vintage patio furniture I bought a while back.

The set that I bought while we were still living in a hotel and Rob kind of looked at me like I was nuts- set.  Granted, it was a faded and poorly applied canary yellow and cream number.   Months later, it still sat looking more than a little drab on our back porch.  But then I found a matching rocking chair that was the exact same pattern for a steal at the Gresham Barn Sale.  Although it is hunter green and peeling like a sick cockatiel.  This makes me (and Rob) want to refinish the set all the more badly, but still it sits.

Not any more!  Rich inspired me so I stocked up on spray paint and went for it.

The next morning, I check my e-mail and found a Joss and Main sale that included this!  For $149.99.  And I paid $63 for all 4 pieces.  Yesss.

Does this matter in the grand scheme of things? No.

Do I still feel smug? Yes.

Welcome, Chairman Me-ow

We got a cat.  I never thought I'd say that, but it's true.  We made the decision to give away our two labs due to a small backyard and not enough time to give them the attention they need.  But there was still the potential problem of critters in our backyard, mostly the slithery kind.

Enter Chairman Meow.  As in China's Communist revolutionary, the founding father of the People's Republic of China, Mao. Some say he was a monster, some say he was a genius.  I say he loves a nice bowl of warm milk and a head scratch.

Uncle Richie dubbed him The Chairman and it stuck.

We love him.  A lot.  Some more than others.  Some straighten their bodies with excitement and shriek and flail fat fists at the mere sight of him... not naming any names.

Wyatt goes to the window and yells, "Chairman!"  Then they lay on the ground pawing at each other through the glass and wishing for true interaction.  But the first time Wyatt really played with him I didn't immediately wash his hands and poor Wyatt started scratching at his mouth and throat and swelling wherever his hands had touched his face.  A medium sized dose of Benadryl later we relegated playtime with The Chairman to opposite sides of the glass.

We're back! (and potty training)

I've been gone for a long time, it seems like!

My sister Kat had her baby- 2 weeks in the hill country.
As soon as we got back I got sick- 1 week in isolation.
As soon as I got better we went to China-almost 3 weeks.

And now that we're all settled in and back on Texas time we're potty training time people!  Days one and two were semi-successful with about a 50/50 ratio of accidents and potty uses.  Today, I took my sister's advice and am letting him run around without a speck of clothing on.  To my great surprise this had made all the difference.  It was a bit counterintuitive to me but they're used to 'putting' it in their diaper and I guess Wyatt thought the big boy undies were just another type of diaper.  Now there's nowhere to put it except the potty!  Magic.

More like the grace of God.
